IDT 5210: Instructional Design Capstone Course

TNU Course Description:
This course will demonstrate the mastery of content through a practicum or significant project adapted to the professional requirements of instructional design. After a thorough process of feedback and revision, students are required to present their final ePortfolios and build a course to showcase their work and demonstrate achievement of program competencies.

Instructor: Dr. LaMetrius Daniels

Reflection:

My capstone project was to develop the PSC 4010 Psychology in Organizations online course for Trevecca Nazarene University.  Trevecca offers a fully-online Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology through the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies (SGCS).  One of the final courses taken by students majoring in Psychology is PSC 4010 Psychology in Organizations.  In order for Trevecca to provide the required courses in its comprehensive program, and to enable the students to fulfill the requirements for graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, this course must be developed and implemented for the first cohort of students.  With the successful development of this course, current and future students, as well as its instructor(s), will benefit from its implementation.

Trevecca uses Blackboard as its Learning Management System (LMS).  I have used Blackboard as a student, but it was necessary for me to obtain some basic training in Blackboard’s development environment as well as understanding Trevecca’s standards regarding the implementation of their online courses.  Dr. LaMetrius Daniels, TNU Director of Online Learning, was my supervisor and mentor, and provided the necessary training for Blackboard development.  Professor Tim Jackson, SGCS Director of Registration, was the Content Expert and Course Instructor.  I am grateful for having the opportunity to develop this course for Trevecca.  I thoroughly enjoyed working with Professor Jackson and Dr. Daniels!  It is nice when everyone on the team is on the same page and wanting the project to be a success.

The PSC 4010 Psychology in Organizations online course was scheduled from November 6, 2018 through January 14, 2019, and was successfully utilized by its first cohort of students.
